Car insurance policies could be used as a way of improving road safety, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesman for the organisation, suggests that if the way in which young people are taught to drive and the way in which they behave behind the wheel then the risk of being involved in a serious accident can be reduced.
"What we'd like to see is young drivers getting more experience before they actually sit their driving test, rather than taking their driving test and then, in effect, learning to drive," he comments.
Mr Tarling suggests that young people take part in a learning period of at least one year before they take their test so that they are better equipped to drive.
In related news, a study by MoneyExpert.com suggests that average car insurance premiums have risen by six per cent over the past year.
Whatever their age, consumers could well find that they are able to get a great deal on car insurance from InsureandGo.
