Online travel resource Travelsupermarket.com has suggested that as more people book their holidays online due to the convenience it affords, travel agents will begin to offer more tailor made vacation packages.
Commenting recently, Kayte Williams, holiday manager at the firm, suggested that while online holiday companies are beginning to dominate the market in terms of holiday packages that are straightforward to put together, travel agents offer extra assurance and are well placed to offer tailor made solutions.
"Where people need that extra level of support, say for instance if it is multi-centre and they are not quite happy completing all that transaction online, that's where they would like the extra reassurance," Ms Williams commented.
Her comments follow recent findings from internet analyst Ciao Research which found that only 20 per cent of UK holidaymakers use a travel agent, while 58 per cent said they had booked online.
Elsewhere, a recent Which? study found that travel agents still play an important part of the holiday experience for many consumers, with 44 per cent of people said to have used an agent for all or part of their vacation last year.
