Those planning to take their vehicle on an overseas holiday have been urged to check the terms of their car insurance policy to avoid being left without cover.
Over-50s motor specialist Rias notes that many drivers are unsure as to whether they will be covered for certain events such as breakdown and vehicle recovery and as a result leave themselves exposed to costly retrieval and maintenance fees.
It notes that vehicle repairs can run into hundreds of pounds, while calling out a tow truck can cost more than £1000.
"Getting the correct insurance in place should be as essential a part of a pre-holiday to-do list as remembering to pack your toothbrush," said RIAS managing director Janet Connor.
The group urges all drivers to check the terms of their policy prior to leaving the country.
Visitors planning a car trip to Ireland have also recently been advised by AA Ireland that it is important to check motor cover before leaving.
InsureandGo car insurance searches the marketplace to find a suitable level of cover at a competitive price.
