Fans of driving breaks looking for a low-cost trip over the summer might like to look south-westwards this year.
New research conducted by Post Office Financial Services reveals that Spain is the most economic eurozone destination for UK car insurance customers seeking out a bargain holiday.
Switzerland was identified as the nation offering the most favourable unleaded prices at the pumps, but Spain won out in terms of both diesel costs and the spend required to hire a car.
Post Office head of travel Helen Warburton said: "Sterling has fallen in value by 14 per cent against the euro in the past year."
"When we extracted this percentage from the price rises, we found that the UK had suffered the highest underlying price hike - 20 per cent at the pumps."
The Post Office's research also indicated that the difference in costs between unleaded and diesel fuel was growing in all 12 countries surveyed.
Earlier this year, American Express stated that a trend towards driving holidays was re-emerging.
Regardless of destination, holidaymakers heading abroad might benefit from investigating the competitive car insurance deals available through InsureandGo.
