The cost of travel insurance is not putting people off getting married abroad.
Indeed, according to Conde Nast Brides magazine, there is a growing trend for couples to choose to get married abroad, with the publication citing a combination of cost and weather.
Thea Darricotte, executive retail editor at the publication, said that it is cheaper to marry abroad, especially in the current economic climate.
She suggested Italy, where newlyweds can enjoy "the best wine, the best food and not pay the maximum price for them".
Ms Darricotte said she believed the trend was set to continue.
According to her, the government's claim that marriage is in decline does not take weddings that happen abroad into account.
"In our experience, there is no way the market has been affected by either the recession or social trends," she said.
Office for National Statistics data from 2006 found that there were 275,140 weddings in the UK, four per cent less than in 2005.
In 2006 there were 236,980 marriages, the lowest number since 1895.
