Children's boredom 'is hard to deal with'

Bored children are the biggest strain on parents trying to maintain focus behind the wheel, a new study from Churchill has shown.

According to the car insurance provider, more than a third (35 per cent) of adults have been distracted by their kids while driving.

Meanwhile, 73 per cent say that children getting bored and restless is the most difficult part of making a journey with them.

For an unlucky two per cent, their kids' behaviour has been so disruptive as to have nearly caused an accident, the insurer noted.

Dr Claire Halsey, clinical psychologist and parenting expert, advised anxious parents: "Increase the chance of a peaceful ride by organising plenty to entertain, schedule lots of breaks in the journey and agree a clear set of rules and rewards for good behaviour."

In an earlier study, Churchill revealed that car thieves are willing to steal all sorts of valuables from a vehicle. Among the items reported stolen to the group were a cat flap, disco lights and some sandwiches.
