Nearly three-quarters of Britons have admitted to speeding on a regular basis, the Co-Operative has claimed.
According to research carried out by the car insurance provider, 23 per cent of people said that they drive over the limit on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, a little over a quarter (27 per cent) said they always stuck to the allowed speed.
David Neave, director of general insurance at the firm, warned: "People often don't think about the dangers of driving a few miles an hour over the limit. But that can mean the difference between having a safe journey or a collision."
Further research from the group indicated that people seem to have a complacent attitude to speeding because they do not feel they are likely to get caught.
Last month, confused.com warned that 29 per cent of motorists regularly break the speed limit, while over 24 million motorists were found to have some form of bad driving habit.
