Skiers could head to Swiss slopes this winter

Those wanting an exciting winter break could consider a skiing holiday to Zermatt.

Writing in the Telegraph, Gabriella Le Breton said that Zermatt in Switzerland "seems to have it all", including year round skiing for any ability, exceptional dining, a "pretty car-free village", high-end hotels and a party and nightlife scene.

She also points out that the Matterhorn "towers above" the village and the slopes, affording holidaymakers one of the most dramatic backdrops of any ski resort worldwide.

Ms Le Breton suggests that skiers visiting the Swiss resort should invest in an international ski pass. The resort actually offers skiing on both Swiss and Italian territory and an international pass gives people access to Cervinia on the Italian side.

She writes that this area offers "long, cruising runs".

For more advanced skiers, Ms Breton advises a trip to the Val d'Aosta which offers challenging slopes.

Head of travel insurance at esure Mike Pickard recently warned that winter sports carry a higher degree of risk and therefore the right travel insurance is essential.

InsureandGo offer special ski insurance at low rates.
